According to the International Energy Agency, the U.S. imported 13 million barrels a day in 2005, just over 9 million in 2011, and is projected to import less than 6 million by 2020 and just over 3 million by 2035. In contrast, China imported 3 million barrels in 2005, 5 million in 2011, and is expected to import over 8 million in 2020 and just over 12 million barrels of oil in 2035.
